The son of a preacher, his childhood was steeped in family sing-alongs, late-night prayer sessions, and impromptu church services that ignited a deep passion for soulful expression.
🎶 A self-taught drummer and guitarist, LaJaye' quickly made waves in school talent shows and went on to form his own band. Surrounded by musical greatness — including members of Instant Funk, Robert “Kool” Bell of Kool and the Gang, and mentored vocally by the legendary Dr. Mattie Moss Clark — he honed a sound that would shape his career.
In 1994, he dropped his first solo single “Put My Thang Down” (Delgeo Records/Universal Music), gaining critical exposure and landing spots on major stages like the Apollo Theater, while opening for Boyz II Men, Jagged Edge, Glenn Jones, Blaque, and more!
🎭 LaJaye’ also made a name for himself in theater, starring in hit stage plays like “A Good Man Is Hard To Find,” “When A Woman’s Fed Up,” and “Love Under New Management” alongside Mikki Howard.
He continues to evolve, collaborating with icons like Lenny Williams on “It’s Yours” and most recently with Tony Terryon the heartfelt single “No Greater Luv” — both released under Sony Music Group.
